Chess Club
The Chess Club is designed to teach students to play chess, learn strategies, good sportsmanship and how to have lots of fun playing the game. The club meets on Wednesdays and is open to grades 1 through 8. Students participate in scrimmages and tournaments with other Catholic Schools. No experience is necessary. Find out more information about Chess Club on their web page.
Cub Scouts
All Souls offers a full Cub Scout program for boys who are in first through fifth grades (or are 7 to 10 years old). Scouting helps families teach their boys how to make good decisions and give them confidence through fun and educational activities. Throughout the year, the scouts participate in events that benefit the Cub Scout pack, the parish and the community.
Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make a better place. Girl Scouts is a place for girls to explore their world, develop an understanding and empathy for others, and take action to make the world a better place. All Souls Girl Scouts do community work, go on field trips, learn new things, provide leadership development, make new friends, and have FUN!
Junior Great Books
Jr. Great Books is an archdiocesan program available to All Souls students grades 5-8. Each year students who demonstrate advanced reading skills and above average grades are selected by their teachers for the program. Students meet in the evenings, two times a month from October through February, as they read and discuss each of 9 classic book selections with trained volunteer leaders. It is an enrichment program for advanced readers designed to stimulate critical reasoning skills using the Socratic method of questioning and discussion of ideas. Discussions are often lively and educational.
Little Flowers
The Little Flowers of All Souls give girls the opportunity to strengthen their spiritual foundations. Our patroness is St. Therese of Lisieux and we try to follow her "little way" by doing good deeds and reaching out to our community. Each month the girls learn about a different saint and virtue and then do a community service project based on what they have learned. Our year culminates with a field trip to Mother Cabrini Shrine and a mother/daughter luncheon.
Music Lessons
Students with an interest in music can take music lessons after school. Two trained music teachers offer lessons in voice, guitar, piano and a variety of other musical instruments. Recitals are scheduled regularly so friends and family can see the musical progress of students.
Newspaper
All Souls students write and edit a monthly newspaper for the student body. Students in sixth grade, seventh grade and eighth grade form the newspaper staff. Staff members may commit to one trimester, two trimesters or all three trimesters. Younger students may submit articles, poems or drawings for consideration. Under the guidance of a former full-time sports writer, students will be taught the basics of reporting (researching, interviewing, citing and quoting sources).
Running Club
The Spirits and Soles Running Club is a non-competitive and fun introduction to the sport of running, held in the springtime. The club is open to students in grades 1-8. School parents and staff plan our sessions, including form exercises, games, circuit training, long distance running, and sprinting. By the end of our "season", most students are able to walk or jog up to 2 miles with parent supervision. Many students in the group participate in different sports and find that running club increases their fitness and strength on the fied. A minimal fee is usually required for ordering club t-shirts.
Speech
All Souls is active in the Archdiocesan Speech Association. At the end of sixth grade, try-outs are held for the students who are interested in being on the team. Twenty-five to thirty students are selected to represent All Souls at the speech meets. Eighth grade competes in October and December, and seventh grade competitions are held in February and April. All Souls continues to be successful. We have won All School awards at each trophy meet for the past twenty-three years.
Student Council
Student Council is composed of fifth through eighth grade students. Each homeroom in grades five, six, and seven has two representatives and each eighth grade homeroom has three representatives. These students all serve half year terms. There are also four yearly officer positions. An eighth grader is president and the other positions are filled by either seventh or eighth graders. Student Council runs spirit week, bake sales and the carnival. They also plan several liturgies. Campbell soup labels and box tops are also counted by Student Council. Out of uniform days and a variety of other activities are also planned. It is a fun way to get involved in school.
Theater Workshop
Theatre is offered as an after school extra-curricular activity for grades K-8 at All Souls. Under the guidance of an instructor with a degree in theatre, the participants are involved in various activities including stage combat, make-up, stage movement, etc. as well as prepare for a Christmas production. Through an assortment of activities, the students not only learn about the theatre but also have many laughs and loads of fun.
Yearbook
Students and staff members compile the yearbook each year. Working on the yearbook provides students opportunities to learn skills that will be helpful later in life. It fosters a sense of teamwork, responsibility, enhances writing and computer skills, and always brings a real sense of accomplishment when all our efforts are compiled in a bound published All Souls School Yearbook ready for signing at the end of the school year.
All Souls Youth Group
The youth ministry program at All Souls is dedicated to giving youth in grades 7th – 12th the opportunity to build a Catholic community of friends, grow in their relationship with Christ, and find their role in the Church. |
